New England Mobster Scivola gets over 3 years

  Another New England mobster has been sentenced for his part in a shakedown by New England mafia members of Rhode Island strip clubs. Alfred "Chippy" Scivola Jr was sentenced to three years and ten months in prison on today as part of a plea deal. According to the plea deal the extortion scheme netted between $800,000 and $1.5 Million dollars and spanned over a decade. Scivola is the fifth person to be sentenced to prison time in the case which include three New England mafia associates and reputed former New England mob boss Luigi "Baby Shacks" Manocchio who got five and a half years for his role in the scheme.

Also arrested in connection to the scheme was Anthony DiNunzio the reputed acting boss of the New England mob. DiNunzio was arrested in April and plead not guilty and is being held with out bail as he awaits trial. Edward "Eddy" Lato mob captain of the Rhode Island crew of New England's La Cosa Nostra family has also pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy for his part in the scheme and is set to be sentenced next week. Scivola became a made member of the New England Mafia in 1996 according to Assistant U.S. Attorney William J. Ferland. Ferland also detailed the mobsters involvement in the extortion scheme and that he traveled to Connecticut in 2008 to meet with members of the Gambino crime family from New York along with meetings with reputed New England mob captain Mark Rossetti in 2011 to discuss how the money obtained from the strip clubs would be distributed. Prosecutors asked the judge in the case for a sentence that would send a message to anyone that may be drawn in by the glamor of the mob. They warned that the New England crime family has not been erased by this extortion case.
